Destruction of Records
In compliance with the Individual Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), The Georgia Records Act, and the Long County School System policy on destruction of data collected, maintained or used in the provision of a free and appropriate public education for the handicapped and/or exceptional children in the Long County Schools, the Special Education Department announces its intention to destroy special education records during the month of July 2012.
Records on students who were enrolled in a special education program in the Long County School System who were born prior to July 1, 1987 are no longer needed by the schools for educational purposes.
The confidential records may be needed by the student or parent for social security or other purposes. If you, as a former special education student or a parent of a former special education student, wish to obtain these records prior to destruction, you should contact the Special Education Department of the Long County School System. Positive identification will be required before the records can be released to the individual.
For more information, contact the Special Education Department at 912-545-2919 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
