FOOD NUTRITION DEPARTMENT
FOOD NUTRITION DEPARTMENT
The primary goal of the Food Nutrition Department is to provide all students, regardless of income level, healthy school meals that meet their nutritional needs. Long County Schools offer healthy meals every school day. Breakfast is at no cost to all students at 7:30 a.m. For lunch, students may choose a hot well-balanced meal or a bag lunch for a cost of $ 1.10 at Smiley Elementary and $ 1.35 at Walker Middle and Long County High School. They may also bring their lunch from home; however, NO lunches are allowed to be delivered to campus during the school day.

Free & Reduced Meal Program
The Long County School System participates in the National School Meal Program. Your children may qualify for free meals or reduced-price meals. Reduced price is $ .40 for lunch. Applications for meal benefits are given to students on the first day of each new school year. An application may be completed and returned to your child's school office any time during the school year. Students approved to receive free or reduced price meal benefits are entitled to one lunch each day. You may obtain the application from any school cafeteria manager or print the form here:
Students are responsible for purchasing meals at FULL price until meal benefits are approved. The approval process may take several days. You will be notified when the application is processed and approved.
Meal Modification Program
The Long County School Nutrition Program regulations require that meals offered in the schools meet the meal patterns identified in the program regulations. Food substitutions may be made for medical or special dietary needs on a case-by-case basis if supported by a statement signed by a medical authority. If your child has a special dietary need, print and fill out the Authorization for Meal Modification Form, and return to the School Nutrition Director. Your child’s health is very important to us and we will make every attempt to accommodate your child’s dietary needs.
Lunchroom Rules of Conduct
1. Enter the lunchroom quietly and stay in line (no cutting).
2. Remove eating utensils, food tray and paper from the table when finished eating. Place them in appropriate areas.
